Teltonika FM6320 description

Teltonika FM6320 is real-time advanced tracking terminal with GNSS and 3G/GSM connectivity with backup battery, which is able to collect device coordinates and other useful data and transfer them via 3G/GSM network. This device is perfectly suitable for applications where location acquirement of remote objects is needed: fleet management, car rental companies, taxi companies, public transport, logistics companies, personal cars and so on.

Package contents

Package content depends on Order Code, and can be customized by customer needs.

The FM6320 device is supplied to the customer in a cardboard box containing all the equipment that is necessary for operation. The package contains:

  • FM6320 device
  • Input and output power supply cable with 2×10 connection pins
  • 4 screws for assembling device
  • GPS/GLONASS antenna
  • GSM antenna
  • USB cable
  • Port 1/2 cable
  • Port 3 cable

Location and tracking

FM6320 model is embedded with GPS chip and also it has the support of GLONASS. It doesn’t support Assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology. As the back-up, when no satellites signals are available, it uses Cell ID location (also known as LBS-tracking).

The tracking mode is flexible configured: by moving every 100m, and every 60 sec, and on turning on 30 degrees by default. When there is no movement (detected by “Ignition” status), tracker sends data every 180 seconds.

Mobile networks

With Quad-band GSM 3G module FM6320 can be operated all over the world.

Interfaces

FM6320 model features such interfaces as

  • USB port
  • 4 Digital Inputs
  • 4 1Wire® temperature sensor;
  • 1Wire® iButton;
  • 3 Analog Inputs
  • 4 Digital Open-collector Outputs (connecting external relays, LED, buzzers etc.)
  • K-Line interface for online Tachograph Vehicle Data transfer;
  • 2xRS232 port;
  • RS485 port;
  • J1708 interface;
  • LVCAN interface;
  • CAN messages 2.0 A, B Active support. Speed up to 1 Mbit/s.

Power supply

FM6320 uses and voltage range 11-30V, which makes possible to install it both on cars and trucks. Device also features an optional built-in rechargeable backup battery. When fully charged it ensures about 1 hour of device operation (in normal conditions).

Two sleep modes

FM6320 is able to go to Sleep mode after configurable Sleep timeout. This timeout (defined period) starts counting when device is in STOP mode. After timeout is reached and all conditions for sleep mode are met, device goes to normal sleep or deep sleep mode:

  • Normal sleep mode. FM6320 can enter sleep mode if ALL of these conditions are met:
    • device has to be configured to work in Sleep mode;
    • Start-up timeout has elapsed (5 minutes after every restart of the device);
    • No movement by accelerometer is detected;
    • Ignition is off;
    • USB cable is not connected.
  • FM6320 exists normal sleep mode if ONE of the following conditions are true:
    • Movement by accelerometer is detected (depends on accelerometer start settings);
    • Ignition (DIN1) is turned on (driven logic high);
    • USB cable is connected;
    • HIGH or PANIC priority eventual record is detected;
  • Deep sleep mode. FM6320 sets GPS receiver to sleep mode and turns off GSM/GPRS module (it is not possible to wake up device via SMS), therefore records with last good coordinates are being saved and sent to AVL server if configured (GSM/GPRS module is turned on to send data and after turned off). Depending on two configurable parameters, send period and min period, in Deep Sleep mode power usage can be decreased to save vehicle’s battery.

FM6320 exits deep sleep mode if at least one of following conditions is true:

  • Movement by accelerometer is detected (depends on accelerometer start settings);
  • Ignition is turned on (driven logic high);
  • USB cable is connected;
  • HIGH or PANIC priority eventual record is detected;

Harsh driving behaviour

Four scenarios are available on FM6320 device. All scenarios can be activated at the same time and all activated scenarios can be configured to control the same DOUT (expect excessive idling).

ECO driving/Green driving Scenarios. Helps to prevent and inspect driver about harsh driving. Eco driving scenario continuously monitors: accelerating, braking and cornering forces depending on build in accelerometer or Green driving depending on GPS. The device inspects driver if needed. Monitoring sensitivity is configurable.

Any of the four DOUT can be configured and then controlled by scenario for user needs, buzzer or LED for example. Output activation time after harsh event is also configurable.

To save GPRS traffic ECO driving/Green driving event will be generated (included into records) only when FM6320 measured values are higher than those set in configuration, without additional I/O settings.

To prevent generating false events, harsh acceleration and harsh braking is monitored only when following conditions are fulfilled:

  • Ignition is ON
  • Vehicle speed is equal or higher than 10km/h

Harsh cornering is monitored only when following conditions are fulfilled:

  • Ignition is ON
  • Vehicle speed is equal or higher than 30km/h

Local and remote management

Teltonika FM6320 tracker can acquire data (based on time, distance, angle, ignition and events) and it can send it via GPRS using smart algorithm of GPRS connections.

Also it supports firmware updating via GPRS (FOTA), and there is a wide list of SMS commands in a ASCII format, on which device always replies back. In particular, Server address and port, APN settings can be applied remotely with SMS. To decrease the amount of SMS required for configuration SMS in binary format can be also used.

You can also configure FM6320 from a PC using proprietary software (Teltonika Configurator) and special USB-cable which you can buy separately.

LED Indication

FM6320 has two status LEDs:

  • Status LED: indicates GSM/GPRS mode
  • Navigate LED: indicates GPS reception

Teltonika FM6320 is tightly integrated with this software platform.

Automatic activation

The software platform supports automatic device activation by sending SMS commands, which includes all parameters in one command, applying APN settings, server address and port, as well as recommended tracking mode. These SMS commands can be sent in two formats:

  • Binary format (recommended) – one SMS to configure multiple parameters
  • Text ASCII format – one SMS to configure one parameter only

Binary format is recommended because it requires less messages to send from  platform to device. When using binary format it is just 2-3 SMS to send, and in text format it’s more than 20 messages in total. However, depending on the SMS gateway and GSM operator binary SMS can not be delivered, and it requires to use Text messages.

Before the activation process please make sure that your device is switched ON and is located in the place with good GPS signal reception. You also need to keep the device with initial factory settings, in particular:

  • Do not set any password, keep them clear (as by default)
  • Do not set any master number prior to the device activation
  • Do not set local Time zone, it must be UTC+0h (as by default)

Manual configuration

If you experience issues with the SMS delivery from the platform to device in your country, you can setup device manually by using Teltonika Configurator software.
